It's a lonely place lying awake.
The world has gone to sleep without us. We are left listening to the sounds of a still house and thinking! We are caught up in the thoughts from the day or worrying about tomorrow. We're very aware that daylight is getting closer and closer. The more pressure we feel to sleep, the harder it seems to become. What is so important that it interrupts our sleep?
According to Bupa, stress is one of the top factors contributing to poor sleep.
When we're not sleeping, we're usually worrying and our constant thoughts are powerful enough to trigger the sympathetic nervous system which releases cortisol. This stress chemical can stay in our bodies for up to 2 hours, so if we find ourselves in a situation where we're constantly irritated by something or someone, this chemical can hang around constantly leaving us on high alert. It becomes difficult to calm ourselves down in preparation for sleep. Then we wake up feeling tired and irritable and we're even more prone to stressful encounters. Unfortunately the mind loves repetition and it doesn't take long for lying awake to become a habit we don't seem able to break.
If this sounds familiar then Sleepy Nights can help. Based on mindfulness and meditation techniques, Sleepy Nights is a 35 minute audio guide that gently leads your body and mind to a place of rest. The NHS website lists mindfulness and meditation in it's top 5 recommendations for getting a good night's sleep, and here's why:
- Our thoughts trigger our nervous system placing us on higher alert and the more we think about not sleeping, the more agitated we become. Sleepy Nights incorporates mindfulness techniques to calm down the nervous system and interrupt the thoughts that keep it stoked up. It brings the rest and digest system on line.
- Our busy minds can make it impossible to switch off, Sleepy Nights uses calming words and mindfulness techniques to settle the mind down and uses focused attention training to intercept the cycle of worry.
- All thoughts create waves in the brain, some of which make it difficult to sleep. Sleepy Nights includes binaural beats designed to create the slower brain waves that make us feel relaxed and sleepy.
As a mindfulness coach who trained with the British Mindfulness Association, I understand the power of a gentle, calming approach that helps us to feel safe and comfortable in our space. This soothing approach has taken my clients off to sleep again and again. It uses some powerful techniques but it's really simple. Just listen to the audio track and if possible use headphones to really enhance the experience.
So from one busy mind to another, this is Sleepy Nights.
- A tranquil calming 35 minute guidance with a voice that has been proven to send people to sleep again and again.
- Mindfulness techniques subtly blended in to calm the body and settle the busy mind.
- Sleep deprivation triggers the sympathetic nervous system so Sleepy Nights brings the parasympathetic nervous system back on line. This is vital for rest and digest.
- Sleepy Nights uses binaural beats to promote Delta waves taking your brain right into that sleepy zone.
- The brain loves habit, so Sleepy Nights will begin to interrupt that habit of lying awake.
- Unlimited access to the product, so it's available whenever you need it.
So if you're fed up of wrestling with sleep, this is your invitation to simply lie back and allow the calming tones of Sleepy Nights to wash over you. It's time to remember how rejuvenating it feels to drift off to sleep more easily and wake up fully recharged.

Helen
"Worked a treat on me... I was out within 15 mins. Thank you Julie""
Nicola
"My sleep pattern has literally grown wings and flown out the window and headed to Australia. So when I saw the post for sleep meditation, I thought I'd give it a go. I used it for 5 consecutive nights. First night, I heard it all the way through. The voice was relaxing and calming. The instructions helped me control my breathing. In the morning after the third night, I realised that I'd only heard the first 30 seconds before I drifted off. Generally when I get into bed that's when I process the day's happenings but I felt this helped to quieten my mind and helped me drift off to sleep."

The Benefits of Sleep
(adapted from the Bupa website)
1. Sleep improves attention and concentration throughout the day making it easier to complete tasks.
2. Sleep gives the body the time it needs to rest, repair and renew healthy cells.
3. Sleep processes and organises the information you've gathered during the day, converting it into memories that support learning and clarity.
4. Sleep can help to support healthy weight because sleep deprivation makes us more prone to overeating, or using sugar based foods to boost our energy.
5. Sleep naturally slows down our heart rate keeping it healthier and reducing the risk of developing high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary heart disease or strokes.
6. Sleep keeps the immune system strong supporting our capacity to fight off illness.
7. Sleep promotes emotional well being, reducing the risk of developing poor mental health.
8. Sleep reduces stress levels by slowing down the heart and bringing the parasympathetic nervous system online.

I'm ready to sleep! £10Meet your guide
Mindfulness has changed my life in so many ways. It's helped me to work with stress, deal with narcissism and to live each day in colour.
Before I studied I was constantly worried and struggled to sleep. I found mindfulness practices that really helped me to switch off and when I started teaching, I learnt that my approach to guidance often had people snoozing through their practice. I realised just how tired people are and how vital good rest is, so I created my first sleep meditation. If it goes well, there'll be more on the way, so I'd love to get your feedback.
